Good pharmaceutical procurement needs good systems. Ordering, receiving, storing, managing and distributing health commodities requires complex planning, robust systems, and a detailed knowledge of product inventory. For teams working entirely offline, that’s documented in thousands of disparate pieces of paper, which could be stored anywhere. Centralised digital procurement is the answer, but in many places across our region, digital solutions are too expensive, too complicated, and too technological to actually work.
That’s why we created our own accessible procurement tech. Conceived and tested in a warehouse eight degrees south of the equator, our ProcureRx platform genuinely simplifies health procurement. It provides the rich data and strong digital systems that can transform procurement processes, and genuinely works in the places that need it most.
Good data drives good procurement
Good digital procurement management can reduce stock outs, increase availability, reduce expiries and strengthen systems to improve procurement processes for the long-term. In Timor-Leste, where we piloted ProcureRx, we supported the Government of Timor-Leste’s sole health commodity purchaser to save money and get more critical medicines in stock.
Together, we found US $2 million in financial savings by introducing digital item-by-item procurement – and boosted the availability of critical medicines from less than 70 per cent to 99 per cent in just two years. Staff trained in ProcureRx were able to use our digital tools to make their work more accurate, more reliable and more cost-effective.
We’re not interested in flashy, gimmicky products that create more problems than they solve. We’re interested in agile, adapted tech solutions that work where they’re needed, and help get more and better medicines to the people who need them most.
